About Sarah James Photography

I kick-started my photography career 27 years ago, initially as a part time wedding assistant whilst studying photography.

This was back in the days of medium format cameras and darkrooms!!
I was fortunate to learn, train and work alongside various well-known photographers on the south coast during this period.

In 2006 I flew solo and launched Sarah James Photography, initially going mobile and shooting in people’s homes, lugging around a camera, lights, a backdrop and a bag of props.
It didn’t take me long to learn this was not the future for me; I craved a studio with proper lights, different backdrops to choose from, more than a single bag of props, I wanted to take my time with each shoot and create natural, yet artistic collections; I wanted to create memories.

So in 2011 I opened my first studio, a scary move indeed, but I’ve never looked back. It’s enabled us to offer the relaxed and stress-free environment that we are known for with each of our client sessions.

We specialise in portrait photography; photographing maternity, new-borns, babies, families and pets.

I absolutely love my job, every family is unique and I meet some incredible people and it’s such a pleasure knowing I create precious memories for them that will treasured by their family for years to come.

It’s a heart-felt compliment when clients return year after year.

Partly, our success is down to how we approach each sitting; during our client’s portrait sessions, it’s paramount they are relaxed and stress-free ensuring a fun experience they will want to repeat and return again.

I often receive wonderful compliments saying how relaxed and fun the sitting was and how it was such a refreshing change to not feel like they are being rushed, and how much they look forward to having more in the near future.

I am extremely passionate about my work (I think one has to be!) always striving to improve my skills and techniques.
With this constant striving, the future is going to be exciting, with healthy doses of revamping, reinventing and new projects in the pipeline.

Our studio is a wonderful space, situated in Fareham Town Centre, the historical old High Street, within walking distance of the main shopping centre, with lots of cafés, public transport and parking close by.

I feel very privileged to be in the position as one of the last remaining High Street portrait studios in the area; it takes hard work and constant commitment to keep a commercial property viable, but I love our space and so do my client’s, which at the end of each day, is the most important thing.
